A Magical Place

I love /k/.  It's one of the more interesting (if slightly insane) areas of the intarwebz.  I was browsing through and fell upon a humor thread, of which I have culled the best and here I present them for your perusal and enjoyment (click to embiggen).
First up, Trolling the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence (hhhaawk-ptui!), with Opah Rater and his cousin Mois T. Nougat

I don't know if this BCPGV ad is real or a shoop, but I find it hilarious.

If the Brady's and their ilk were a super hero they's be...

And if they could shape the law in their own image.

Pretty certain they think these are the rules of gun safety.

Like all of 4chan, /k/ delights in pointing out the stupidity of people.  Beginning with the formerly Great Britain.

The press.

The police.

Facebookers

And Mitchell's Mausers (not a /k/ approved vendor),

Of course, /k/ is not above tweeking their own nose.

Helpful /k/ shows you where you need improvement.

Creative bastards, /k/omandos are, and believers in Murphy's First Law of War. They never let common sense stand in the way of a good idea.

Sometimes They point out truth that is so horrifying, you have to laugh, or start crying.

Of course, sometimes they make you laugh until you start crying.

So remember boys and girls, when you need advice, don't go to /k/ but if you want an overabundance of opinion, fact and warped humor, feel free to stop by.  Because:

All images were found on /k/ and are used without permission of their owners.  If you really don't like it, tell me and I'll pull it.

We're Not Gonna Take It!

Allow me to call your attention to Alaskans' Freedom to Travel USA, a citizen's group that is dedicated to legislative reform of the TSA. I'm not certain they go far enough, but you have to start somewhere.

The future is looking up.

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the way it's supposed to be.

Criminals afraid of honest men. Home owner didn't even have to draw, maybe didn't even have a gun. The thought that he might have a piece was enough to inspire PSH in the trespasser. This is the ideal folks. Most people got enough respect for their neighbors to leave their stuff alone. For the rest? You will respect me, or you will fear me.

Meet Mr. Lance Thomas

First you should watch the video, then continue reading the post. Go on, I'll wait.

Now then.

I'd like to start off by saying I bloody well love talking heads "...a real life Charles Bronson..." you mean he's imaginary? I think she meant to reference Paul Kersey, the character Charles Bronson played in the Death Wish movies.

Draw your attention to his first words "I refuse to be a victim of violent crime." and again to 1:30 where he says "I decided not to be a victim..." and again pay attention at 5:40 where he says "...my life is too precious for that ..." and lastly to Mr. Thomas's words at 7:45 "A man must live by his principle, and who he is, not what he is ... There are things in this life more important that what we own, and that is, the principal which we live by." These are wise words, from a man who has seen the elephant.

So practice with your weapons, learn every useful tactic you can and prepare yourself and your surroundings so that if you find yourself staring at the business end of a Glock, you'll have prepared as best you can to survive. And even if you should die, then perhaps you'll have kept your loved ones from harm.

To Conceal, or Not to Conceal? That is the Question.

I make my morning check (that'd be nightly for you daywalkers) and the newsfilter dredges this bit of krill out of the info-ocean for me.

Apparently a man frightened the citizenry of Nashville, simply by legally carrying a firearm. After being detained for several hours, he was released without charge. Later in the year he was again the subject of police scrutiny, when he was reported in the vicinity of a country club, carrying a black powder revolver. Again, Mr. Leonard Embody ws released without charge. Police Chief Tim Eades (Belle Meade Police Department) is quoted as saying:
"Just because you have a right to do something doesn't mean it's the right thing
to do."
The TN AG's opinion was that the law does not require a licensed gun owner to carry concealed. That is, if you wanna carry concealed, go ahead, but if you don't, that's fine too. Looking deeper into the story I see that Leonard's permit to carry was suspended by the Tennessee DOS, sighting "material likelihood of risk of harm to the public". And he's filed suit, alleging violation of his civil rights.

David Codrea notes a prawn of a particularly putrid flavor coming from Officer.com, a forum for police officers and the perps who love them.

Liston Mathews, a Knoxville Gun Rights Examiner, in a related article opines:
"...what is legal is not always prudent. If we are to win the hearts and minds of our neighbors, it makes more sense to be dressed like a neighbor when we carry openly."
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a person's manner of dress covered under the First amendment? A long as my clothing does not sport patently pornographic iconography (i.e. nude images of a prurient and lascivious nature), it matters not what I wear. I can wear a speedo and clogs topped with a football helmet if I feel like it, and while I should be prepared for people to point and laugh, neither the police nor the ranger service should be involved. Does it really matter if I add a gun to that ensemble. So what if Mr. Embody's clothing seemed... intimidating to hikers, just so's he's polite and courteous to others. Besides, my Five-seveN doesn't fit under my suit coat.

By hiding our firearms we send an unconscious message that guns are somehow bad, otherwise why hide them? Additionally, by carrying openly we invite people to ask us questions about firearms, carry laws and training. I've managed to steer a dozen people to local CCW licensing schools, firearms stores and shooting ranges in the year or so I've been carrying openly. Yes I get hassled by the cops, and I think I've made my feelings known about the people that sic 'em on me too. But I'm willing to endure that harassment in order to acclimatize my fellow Alaskans to the sight of a man, legally carrying a firearm.

Aye, 'tis nobler indeed to take up arms against a sea of troubles and by opposing the slings and arrows of outrageous LEOs, and ignorant citizens, and by opposing their bullshit, end it.

Never Send a Briton to do a Ghurka's Job.

I see things like this, and it makes me feel like hoisting the raven banner, calling out the warband and pointing the longships towards London.

Apparently when you send a Ghurka to do a man's job, he does it, and never even flinches, unlike his seniors (I cannot honestly refer to them as his superiors).

Having been sent to kill an afghan warlord (and bring back the body to confirm the ID), the Ghurkas of the 1st Battalion, Royal Gurkha Rifles went out and promptly killed him. When increasingly heavy enemy fire necessitated their hasty displacement from their position, and prevented the retrieval of the warlord's body, the Ghurka in question resorted to an age old tactic. He cut off the target's head and dropped it in his pack.

Turn now to Simoorie where, lapped in his ease,
The Captain is petting the Bride on his knees,
Where the whit of the bullet, the wounded man's scream
Are mixed as the mist of some devilish dream --
Forgotten, forgotten the sweat of the shambles
Where the hill-daisy blooms and the gray monkey gambols,
From the sword-belt set free and released from the steel,
The Peace of the Lord is with Captain O'Neil.

Up the hill to Simoorie--
most patient of drudges--
The bags on his shoulder, the mail-runner trudges.

"For Captain O'Neil, Sahib. One hundred and ten
Rupees to collect on delivery."
Then

(Their breakfast was stopped while the screw-jack and hammer
Tore waxcloth, split teak-wood, and chipped out the dammer;)
Open-eyed, open-mouthed, on the napery's snow,

With a crash and a thud, rolled--the Head of the Boh!

-Rudyard Kipling
--The Ballad of Boh-da-Thone

But instead of a considered and heartfelt thanks, prehaps a commendation or a medal, or at least a hundred rupees, the poor fellow is sent back to Kent "pending investigation". "Ministry of Defence sources have been quick to emphasize that the British Army is appalled by what has happened. According to one: 'There is no sense of glory involved, more a sense of shame. He should not have done what he did."

What. The. Fuck. Over. By all the Gods and the choosers of the slain! What is wrong with the UK? Was it the 30 years of rationing following world war two? Was it having to give back India and Hong Kong? What is it that makes a once ruthless and accomplished empire shit themselves over "cultural insensitivity"? Especially if your enemy's SOP is to erase cultures other than his own and replace them with "The Word of Allah". Religion of peace my ass.

Freyr's Phallus! What kind of bloodless, gibbering, 75 Kilo stack of gutless white meat says that a Ghurka's following orders is shameful? Do you think this is a game? Do you think the dead and maimed will get up at the end of the match and shake hands with their opponents? Show some respect for your country. Show some respect for your soldiers. Show some respect for the dead and the sacrifice thay have made for you and your piss poor understanding of international relations.

As you might sense, I am slightly put out by the British government.

Quote of the day...

As seen in the comments over at Tam's Porch.
